René Meslin (sixties)

Actual owner of Château Laroze, the Meslin family is directly descended from the founders Mr et Mrs Georges GURCHY.
In 1610 The Gurchy family already was producing wine at SAINT-EMILION on the land of « Mazerat ». In 1882/1883 they joined three little vineyards to create one spreading out on 37 acres.
Two years later, in 1885, they built the château and the vats and barrel cellar. These are caracteristics of the architecture of the XIX th.
Their son, Maurice, succeded to his father, then their little daughter, Andrée, who married the Dr MESLIN.
His son, Georges (my father),managed the vineyard during 40 years; he became the only shareholder and developped the vineyard to 74 acres and increased the popularity of Laroze. The quality of his work and the one of the preceding generations has been congratulated at the classement in 1955.
The terroir of the vineyard and the quality of the wines put Château Laroze as a "Grand Cru Classé".
From 1986, after his father, Guy Meslin is managing the Château.
