The Vine Plots

A quite uniform terroir

The plots in 1900

The estate is made up of plots more or less the same as it was at the beginning of the 1900s. Only a few neighbouring hectares have been added since then.
The whole vineyard is in one piece around the park and buildings, at the foot of the hillside to the north-west of the village of Saint-Emilion.
The terroir is quite uniform throughout and comprises a siliceous bed lying on a layer of clay.
The thickness of the sandy layer is between 1 to 1.80 metres.
Silica gives the wines elegance and subtlety. Clay provides structure and strength. They are highly complementary.

27 hectares (67 acres) in one piece

Laroze

On our thirty-hectare estate, twenty-seven are planted with vines, and if you exclude pulled up or newly replanted plots, only twenty-five hectares (62 acres) are responsible for average annual production.

The estate is planted with:
68% Merlot
26% Cabernet Franc
6% Cabernet Sauvignon

Château Laroze accounts for approximately 80% of all wines bottled.
Lafleur Laroze accounts for approximately 20% of total wines bottled.
